Alpha Omega Wireless Launches Cloud Based Wireless Network Monitoring Solution

Posted on Fri, Dec 20, 2019

Alpha Omega Wireless, Inc. ("AO Wireless") has announced it is launching, a one of a kind, cloud based Wireless Network Monitoring solution ("AO-WNMS") service to its clients. The new AO-WNMS will provide a much needed solution for organizations that have wireless networks, both outdoor wireless (point to point and point to multipoint wireless backhaul) and indoor Wi-Fi / DAS wireless systems. AO-WNMS will provide the client their own cloud based portal so they can along side AO Wireless have full visibility of the wireless network.

Unlike traditional NMS (Network Monitoring Systems) used in a traditional IT environment, the AO-WMNS is focused on wireless networks yet still has the capability to monitor other traditional IP based devices, like switches, cameras, servers, etc. Traditional NMS systems, do well monitoring typical IT related devices, but are not truly designed for wireless systems. They lack the ability to fully monitor the RF (radio frequency) component of the devices and of the network. Some manufactures have their own specific software but lack being vendor agnostic and able to monitor other wireless equipment on the client's network. AO-WNMS can monitor both the Ethernet side of the radio network while at the same time monitoring the wireless side of the networking devices.

AO-WNMS being a cloud based solution eliminates the high costs of maintaining on premise server hardware and software that requires annual maintenance and updates. AO-WNMS is a subscriptions service that is fully maintained and kept up to date in the cloud making it completely maintenance free and seamless for the client. This also provides the benefit of AO-WNMS on demand where it can be accessed on any internet enabled device and from anywhere. IT Administrators no longer need to VPN in from home or on the road creating a completely mobile workforce.

Wireless Network Monitoring

AO-WNMS creates a trouble ticket platform and a customizable reporting platform. It provides comprehensive wireless network health and performance reporting realtime. Alerts can be customized to provide real time monitoring of a network around the clock. It is the perfect complement to AO Wireless' Annual Support and Maintenance Program that provides on-call and on-site support.

President Joe Wargo says, "We are really excited to give our clients a wireless network monitoring system that is truly designed for wireless technology on top of traditional IP based networks. We wanted to have a solution that would be fully customizable and vendor agnostic by working with any brand of wireless equipment. AO-WNMS will provide a complete access to the network for the client while benefiting from the technical support and monitoring from Alpha Omega Wireless. The system is so simple to use and was designed that way because we have many client organizations that are not fully IT experienced or have the staff. We needed a system that utility field meter techs or municiple traffic control technicians could easily get access and see if their wireless network is up and functions properly. While it is simple from a user experience it is extremely robust for the season IT expert. Custom sensors can be made to dig deep down into the device and network performance.

Alpha Omega Wireless Deploys First SAF Integra in the USA

Posted on Thu, Jan 23, 2014

Alpha Omega Wireless, Inc. installs the new high performance SAF Integra point-to-point licensed microwave wireless backhaul system in the USA.

SAF Tehnika JSC - one of the pioneers of compact full outdoor point-to-point microwave technology announced Q3, 2013 the launch of Integra – ultra light, energy efficient and powerful all-in-one carrier-grade microwave data transmission system.

SAF Integra

Integra is a natural step forward in the evolution of user-friendly full outdoor microwave systems design. Integration of next generation microwave radio with high and super high performance antennas into a single unit means less time spent on the installation site, better availability and reliability of the link even in densely served areas, all of which translates into a lower total cost of ownership. The new Integra exemplifies an outstanding return on smart engineering - the synergy of high competence in radio electronics and materials science.

Alpha Omega Wireless, Inc. President Joe Wargo says, “I'm extremely excited about SAF Tehnika’s new Integra platform. We have been recommending and deploying hundreds of SAF radios for our clients over the last 6 years. Out of all the licensed radios we have installed we have had less than 1% failures. All of which where due to damage in shipping which is to be expected. Even so SAF wasted no time in replacing the units. From a performance perspective the wireless backhaul has been flawless. A true fiber replacement for our clients. Honestly it’s the only radio I’d use on our own network.

I was able to work on the Integra first hand back in September 2013 when visiting the SAF Headquarters in Riga, Latvia. Immediately I knew this would be a hot product. We have been asking for a higher bandwidth radio in the licensed frequencies and SAF delivered. Once you see it you become impressed on every little detailed and thought process that went into the Integra platform. From performance, the user interface, military grade quality, and even to the installation components, this product is different from the rest.

We are excited to have such a great product to offer our clients that need 99.999% reliable high-speed networks. The Integra is a great wireless point-to-point system for our government and ultility clients that need superior quality and AES encryption. Not many new wireless systems impress me but the Integra sure does!“

Perfect for small-cell, RAN and HetNet backhaul where aesthetics in a metropolitan area are a key concern, Integra delivers ambitious performance in a compact package never before available in licensed microwave market. Integra’s embedded software takes full advantage of its cutting edge network processor providing Synchronous Ethernet and 1588 v2 PTP support for LTE network builds, Layer 2 header compression and 256-bit AES encryption for public safety, government, and enterprise networks. Thanks to a convenient design and its solid functionality the Integra is an industry-unique, right-out-of-the-box microwave system with a superior radiation pattern and payload capacity of up to 420Mbps per channel / polarization.

Integra – by its form and specification – is created to be a proper building block for a variety of modern wireless networking applications. To stay advanced and competitive in the telecom world that will increasingly depend on seamless integration and interoperability of synchronization-sensitive systems, it is smart to invest in technology that takes the right direction.

Normunds Bergs, CEO  & Chairman of the Board of SAF Tehnika: “Industry has new standards, demands higher capacities and lower price and SAF has a great solution for that. Integra will be just a first stage in a new product line, providing remarkably comfortable installation process and great capacity together with very attractive price.”

Some of the features of Integra: integrated antenna with next-generation microwave radio, industry leading compact form factor, easy to install, competitive price, with Synchronous Ethernet and IEEE 1588 v.2 PTP, up to QAM1024 etc.

AO Wireless Deploys Xirrus Arrays at SXSW for High-Density Wireless

Posted on Fri, Mar 08, 2013

Wi-Fi Arrays to Serve Densely-Packed Event Venues With 3,000 Attendees -- Each Toting, on Average, Two Mobile Devices -- and Will Allow Seamless Roaming

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - Mar 8, 2013) - Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, and Alpha Omega Wireless, an integrator of broadband wireless network technology and complete end-to-end wireless backhaul solutions, today announced that the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference, a premier showcase of original music, independent films, and emerging technologies, will use Xirrus Wi-Fi arrays to provide wireless coverage at SXSW 2013. IT staff for the event, to be held March 8-17 in Austin, Texas, will deploy Xirrus Arrays across mission-critical event venues to provide comprehensive reach and coverage for attendees. Event organizers predict that attendees will carry, on average, two mobile devices each, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Working with Xirrus partner Alpha Omega Wireless, SXSW first deployed Xirrus Arrays for high-density venues at its Interactive Kickoff Party in 2012, supporting up to 2,000 mobile devices simultaneously and accommodating the surging demand for wireless social media communications at the event.

Xirrus SXSW

Xirrus Arrays use multiple AP's with sector antennas to distribute Wi-Fi signals, in much the same way as cellular antennas, allowing for maximum output and better RF channel control. Further simplifying the wireless architecture, Xirrus Arrays operate at both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, allowing SXSW site planners to map mobile devices with 802.11a 5GHz capability onto the 5GHz wavelengths, reducing demand for 802.11b/g 2.4GHz service. Virtually all second-generation mobile devices are designed for optimum operation at 5GHz.

Xirrus Wi-Fi Array

"Each Xirrus Array has its own integrated controller, eliminating the costs and architectural complexity of using centralized Wi-Fi controllers," said Joe Wargo, president of Alpha Omega Wireless, who managed the infrastructure site plan in tandem with SXSW's IT staff.

Creating Xirrus-based hotspots proved to be a routine, reliable approach to adding bandwidth virtually on demand. Xirrus Arrays house up to 16 AP's, simplifying network architecture by allowing a single Array to replace many discrete AP's. Now, with the ease of provisioning a series of Xirrus hotspots, IT staff for SXSW will be equipped to establish seamless roaming within major venues at the event, eliminating the need for attendees to manually reconnect at each event venue.

SXSW has expanded to blanket virtually the entire city of Austin with its presence. Event officials said that wireless mobility has become even more critical in ensuring a dynamic, media-rich experience for its staff, performers, and attendees. "SXSW has grown beyond all predictions, and wireless service must provide visitors the wired-like experience they enjoy today, but without the complexity and high cost," said Scott Wilcox, Director of Technology for SXSW.

"Scaling the infrastructure for an event with the hyper-growth of South By Southwest can create many unforeseeable demands," said Steven Wastie, VP of Marketing for Xirrus. "But in scaling the vital communications infrastructure to support one of the music industry's most heralded events, nothing can be left to chance. We gratefully acknowledge the trust that South By Southwest has placed in Alpha Omega Wireless and Xirrus."

Alpha Omega Wireless Uses 24GHz SAF Lumina Wireless at SXSW

Posted on Wed, Mar 14, 2012

Alpha Omega Wireless is providing carrier grade wireless backhaul at the 2012 SXSW event in Austin Texas. This backhaul is allowing SXSW to provide much needed bandwidth and internet gateway access to its major venues. For this solution Alpha Omega Wireless (“AO Wireless”) is utilizing the FCC's unlicensed wireless 24GHz frequency band for point to point wireless Ethernet bridge solutions. AO Wireless has chosen to use the SAF CFIP Lumina radio platform by SAF Tehnika, an Eastern European manufacture of point to point licensed microwave wireless radio systems.

SAF Lumina 24GHz SXSW

President Joe Wargo says, "The 24GHz wireless spectrum band is an unlicensed frequency that is heavily underutilized in the United States. Like licensed microwave, a point to point wireless Ethernet bridge in the 24GHz unlicensed wireless band provides carrier grade wireless backhaul. The 24GHz wireless backhaul is ideal for point to point wireless bridges up to 2+ miles. With the SAF Tehnika CFIP Lumnia we can provide carrier / enterprise grade connectivity up to 366Mbps Full Duplex (732Mbps aggregate throughput) in areas where there is a lot of wireless interference. SAF provides the best in breed quality radio systems. When dealing with such a mission critical network we trust only the best microwave radio products available.

The unlicensed wireless 5.8GHz band is becoming heavily saturated and it's becoming difficult to deploy wireless Ethernet bridge links in many areas. Because the 24GHz band is unlicensed we can deploy wireless backhaul links in a day without the need to wait for a FCC license.”

Alpha Omega Wireless now supports the SAF Phoenix TDM and IP System

Posted on Mon, May 03, 2010

May 5, 2010, Sacramento, CA - Alpha Omega Wireless, Inc. (http://www.aowirleless.com) announces that it is now carrying the new SAF Tehnika' CFIP Phoenix, a TDM and IP split mount, point to point wireless backhaul radio system. The CFIP Phoenix is a licensed microwave link that also can be deployed as an unlicensed wireless bridge in the 24GHz frequency band.

SAF CFIP Phoenix

The CFIP Phoenix is a high capacity point to point wireless backhaul radio system that provides up to 366Mbps full duplex (720Mbps aggregate throughput) of Ethernet IP connectivity and up to 20 T1/E1 TDM channels. The spit mount wireless backhaul system includes an industrial grade fanless design that increases reliability and enables low power consumption. SAF's ACM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation) and ATPC (Automatic Transmit Power Control) provides for high availability and high density deployments. The microwave link can have up to 4093 concurrent VLAN traffic that allows building many port-to-port networks paths for specific client services. It also supports Jumbo frame size supports 9728 bytes, which allows using longer header info (VLAN, MPLS) and transmitting more useful content and less headers, thus gaining on total throughput.

President Joe Wargo says, "The CFIP Phoenix allows for an easy transition from previous legacy TDM licensed microwave links. Clients can now make the switch to IP wireless backhaul while maintaining their legacy TDM traffic. The wireless bridge system can also be configured in a 1+1 to provide complete failover redundancy and can be trunked together at the IDU (Indoor Unit), which has 4 gigabit Ethernet ports, to provide double capacity. We have many clients in the government and utility space that still use TDM circuits and need IP as well. The CFIP Phoenix provide the best of both in one licensed microwave link.

The SAF CFIP Phoenix allows us to perform a wireless installation of 100Mbps full duplex and can software upgrade the radios up to 360Mbps full duplex (720Mbps aggregate throughput) protecting the clients CPEX investment."
